Purple Market
Purple Market

A marketplace for the Western community, built by a Western student.

Purple Market is a place to buy and sell with people you actually share a campus with. Textbooks, furniture, dorm gear, tickets and everything else that gets passed between people at Western every September and every April.

It exists because the alternatives are bad. Facebook Marketplace means meeting strangers from across London. The uwo Snapchat story disappears in 24 hours and you can't search it. Perfectly good furniture ends up in a dumpster at move-out because passing it on is harder than throwing it away.

Who can use it

Anyone with a verified @uwo.ca or @alumni.uwo.ca email address. That includes students, staff, faculty and alumni. You sign in with a one-time code sent to that address, so everyone on here is a real member of the Western community.

Who runs it

Purple Market was built and is run by Will Porter, an undergraduate student at Western. It is free to use, charges no fees, and never handles payments. Buyers and sellers arrange payment between themselves and meet on campus.

Not affiliated with Western University

Purple Market is an independent, student-led project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, operated by, or officially connected to Western University, its affiliated colleges, or the University Students' Council. The Western name is used only to describe who the site is for.

Meeting up safely

Western's Special Constable Service runs a Buy and Sell Safe Zone in Lawson Hall, Room 1257. It's well lit, video monitored, and open 24 hours a day. We recommend using it for exchanges.
